One commitment I made to myself when I was figuring out how to manifest Glyph Haus, was I would not spend precious time on things I sucked at. One of the first things I knew I was going to need a hand with was SEO and keyword strategy.
When I reached out to Casey Nifong at Moutain Laurel Digital about helping me with Glyph Haus, she suggested a work plan that ultimately drew me a digital roadmap for the first 3-5 years of my business. Her services (not to mention friendship and support) have had a large impact on me as I start out. I want to share her and her SEO consulting firm, Moutain Laurel Digital with you all.
So here is a proper introduction to one of my favorite boss babes around.
MEET CASEY NIFONG of MOUNTAIN LAUREL DIGITAL
My name is Casey Nifong.
I have been in the digital marketing world for 7 years now and I recently started my own consulting firm called Mountain Laurel Digital. My goal is to build a specialized firm focused on growing local businesses online and create the platform to apply a differentiated depth to my clients’ marketing strategies. People don’t typically think of SEO as being creative and edgy, but it can be. I like the challenge of repositioning technical marketing as a creative targeting strategy to my clients.
Tell our folks about what Mountain Laurel Digital does.
Mountain Laurel Digital offers expert level SEO strategy, brand consulting, and market research to businesses that are ready to connect with their ideal client or customer. We provide online marketing services for small to medium-sized businesses, specializing in the arts, specialty food, niche consumer products, photography, and other businesses with unique audiences.
Our process takes into account not just the hard data relative to keywords and site functionality, but also the “soft” data of your brand and livelihood; we find out the charms, pain points, knowledge gaps, and desires of the people that you’d like to grow your business with, and we optimize your online presence accordingly.
What are you most passionate about?
Ultimately, my passion lies in educating clients on the importance of connecting the human intent behind every online search to their business growth potential.
What are the forces at work in your life that led you to this kind of work?
I’ve always longed to be a part of a movement - a collective push to create an inspiring and sustainable business; to dedicate my time to empowering and reinforcing brands that are aligned with this vision. I wanted the freedom to engage my clients in innovative ways that serve their best interests.

In moments of doubt or when facing adversity, how do you keep yourself moving forward?
Hustle, hustle. Take chances. Look for positive feedback. You have to make your own opportunities and showcase an attitude of both positivity and passion. To push past fear you have to believe in yourself. Keep moving and trust your instincts.
I look for things that inspire passion in me, things that kind of wake me up, whether that's reading stories about new startups and their struggles, painting with a cup of tea, picking up the phone and calling a friend to talk about random things - I look for both new and warm, familiar experiences.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned to date about running your own business?
I have to protect my time. This is a constant struggle for me and a consistent piece of advice I’m given as a business owner. I’ve never really had the freedom to protect my time. In every job before owning Mountain Laurel Digital, my time was someone else’s. So this has been a foreign practice for me to execute. Who am I protecting it from? And why do I have to protect it? “Protect” seems like such a strong, defensive word for a piece of my life that so intangible. But the longer I’m in business the more I understand it. My desire to always be accessible can actually become a hindrance to my personal well being and success. Through this lesson, I have established this is an area I will be focusing to create strategies for now and years to come. I’m sure I will stumble along the way, but the awareness of the importance of safeguarding how I spend my time is a huge step for me.
What brings you the most joy outside of your work?
My family, friends, and community! Especially my super supportive husband. And dark chocolate, a hot bath, folky music and a cabernet
What is the best part of your job so far?
It’s incredible to watch and be a part of my clients’ market research and strategy planning process as we create a foundation together for a new business to flourish out in the wild. Its pretty freakin awesome.
